Solar Eclipse 2024 Path Of Totality Map
The path of the solar eclipse in 2024 will traverse North America, providing an extraordinary celestial event for observers in certain regions. The totality path will start in Mexico and pass through several states in the United States, including Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, before crossing into Canada. This event is eagerly anticipated by astronomers and skywatchers alike, offering a rare opportunity to witness the awe-inspiring phenomenon of a total solar eclipse.
Here are some details of the path:
The path of the eclipse begins in Sinaloa, Mexico, and then
travels northeast across the country.
It enters the United States in Texas, and then travels
through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan will also experience
the total solar eclipse.
The eclipse then enters Canada in Southern Ontario, and
continues through Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.
The eclipse exits continental North America on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
Safety
Except during the brief total phase of a total solar
eclipse, when the Moon completely blocks the Sun’s bright face, it is not safe
to look directly at the Sun without specialized eye protection for solar
viewing. Viewing any part of the bright Sun through a camera lens, binoculars,
or a telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the front of
the optics will instantly cause severe eye injury.
When watching the partial phases of the solar eclipse directly with your eyes, which happens before and after totality, you must look through safe solar viewing glasses (“eclipse glasses”) or a safe handheld solar viewer at all times. You can also use an indirect viewing method, such as a pinhole projector.
What to Expect
The April 8, 2024, eclipse will be a total solar eclipse. It
will be the last total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous United States
until 2044.
A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. People viewing the eclipse from locations where the Moon’s shadow completely covers the Sun – known as the path of totality – will experience a total solar eclipse. The sky will darken, as if it were dawn or dusk. Weather permitting, people along the path of totality will see the Sun’s corona, or outer atmosphere, which is usually obscured by the bright face of the Sun.
Where & When
The April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse will begin over the
South Pacific Ocean and will cross North America, passing over Mexico, United
States, and Canada. Weather permitting, the first location in continental North
America that will experience totality is Mexico’s Pacific coast at around 11:07
a.m. PDT.
The path of the eclipse continues from Mexico, entering the United States in Texas, and traveling through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. The eclipse will enter Canada in Southern Ontario, and continue through Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia. The eclipse will exit continental North America on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada, at 5:16 p.m. NDT.
New York Times to take legal action against Scots language Wordle Game
Josh Wardle's daily puzzle game Wordle arrives in 2021. Millions of people loved playing Wordle, and thousands of developers wanted to create games like Wordle. Variations such as Nerdle (a Wordle for math), World (a Wordle for geography), Herdle (a Wordle for music), and Taylored (a Wordle for Taylor Swift fans) quickly emerged.
With a lot of clever touches on the Wordle formula, there are plenty of Wordle-like models that offer an almost identical Wordle experience without variation (Infinite Wordle is a version of Wordle that you can play more than once a day). The New York Times, which bought the Word from Ward in 2022, is now beating some of them.
As Jason Koebler reported on 404, The New York Times has filed a DMCA notice against coder Chase Wackerfuss, who created a Word clone called React and posted the code on GitHub. And where it starts to snowball, the DMCA notice doesn't just target React, but all Wordl clones that have been "forked" from the open-source React repository — and the number of forks is 1,900 or more.
There are a lot of games in a single DMCA notice. It apparently involves a clone where the answer to every new day is ALWAYS CHUNK.
I Hear Dee will be taking down all versions of their Wirdle
game at the earliest opportunity. They have been in contact with other minority
language groups around the world who are doing the same.
A spokesperson for the NYT said: "The Times has no
issue with individuals creating similar word games that do not infringe The
Times’s 'Wordle' trademarks or copyrighted gameplay.
"The Times took action against a GitHub user and others
who shared his code to defend its intellectual property rights in Wordle. The
user created a 'Wordle clone' project that instructed others how to create a
knock-off version of The Times’s Wordle game featuring many of the same
copyrighted elements.
"As a result, hundreds of websites began popping up with knock-off 'Wordle' games that used The Times’s 'Wordle' trademark and copyrighted gameplay without authorisation or permission. GitHub provided the user with an opportunity to alter his code and remove references to Wordle, but he declined."
Dolby Atmos Vs Dolby Digital Plus Which Is Best
Dolby Atmos Vs Dolby Digital Plus Which Is Best
Creates a more immersive and realistic listening experience
by adding a height dimension to the sound. It uses object-based audio, where
sounds can move around the room freely, including above you.
Requires more speaker channels for optimal performance, typically a 5.1.2 or 7.1.4 setup (which includes overhead speakers).
Dolby Digital Plus
Offers good surround sound quality using channels at
ear-level (5.1 or 7.1 setups).
More widely supported on various devices, including older
ones, since it doesn't require additional speakers for overhead sound effects.
Dolby Atmos Explained
Immersive Soundscapes
Dolby Atmos transcends traditional audio limitations by
creating three-dimensional soundscapes. Instead of channel-based audio, it
adopts an object-based approach, allowing sound to move freely around the
listener, enveloping them in a sphere of auditory bliss.
Object-Based Audio Rendering
In Dolby Atmos, audio objects are placed in a 3D space,
providing a more accurate representation of how sound occurs in the real world.
This leads to a heightened sense of realism, especially in movie theaters and
home theaters equipped with Dolby Atmos speakers.
Dolby Digital Plus in Detail
Enhanced Audio Compression
Dolby Digital Plus focuses on efficient audio compression
without compromising on quality. This technology delivers a richer and more
detailed audio experience, making it a popular choice for streaming services
and mobile devices.
Compatibility and Distribution
Known for its widespread compatibility, Dolby Digital Plus
is a go-to choice for various devices, ensuring a seamless audio experience
across a spectrum of entertainment platforms.
Head-to-Head Comparison
Audio Quality
Precision in Sound Placement
Dolby Atmos shines in precision sound placement, allowing
users to pinpoint the exact location of audio sources. This feature enhances
the realism of movies, particularly those with intricate soundscapes.
Dynamic Range and Clarity
Dolby Digital Plus excels in maintaining a high dynamic
range and clarity, ensuring that even compressed audio retains its richness and
detail. This makes it a preferred choice for streaming content on platforms
with bandwidth constraints.
Device Compatibility
Home Theater Systems
Dolby Atmos dominates in the home theater arena, providing
an unmatched cinematic experience. However, Dolby Digital Plus holds its
ground, offering a practical solution for those seeking quality audio without a
dedicated Atmos setup.
Mobile Devices and Streaming Platforms
Dolby Digital Plus takes the lead in mobile devices and
streaming platforms, catering to the on-the-go entertainment needs of users.
Its efficient compression ensures a high-quality audio experience, even in
bandwidth-limited scenarios.
Practical Considerations
Content Availability
Movie and TV Show Support
Dolby Atmos boasts extensive support in the movie industry,
providing an immersive audio experience in a growing number of film releases.
On the other hand, Dolby Digital Plus is the go-to choice for streaming
services, ensuring a broad range of content compatibility.
Music Streaming Services
As the demand for high-quality audio in music streaming
rises, both technologies find their place, with Dolby Atmos gaining traction
for its ability to enhance the spatial aspects of musical compositions.
Cost and Accessibility
Equipment Costs
Dolby Atmos-compatible setups often come with a higher price
tag, requiring specialized speakers and AV receivers. In contrast, Dolby
Digital Plus offers a more accessible solution, making it a budget-friendly
option for many consumers.
Accessibility for Consumers
Dolby Digital Plus holds an edge in accessibility, given its
widespread adoption in various devices, making it a user-friendly choice for
those seeking a seamless audio experience without hefty investments.
User Experience
Setting Up and Configuring Dolby Atmos
Embarking on the Dolby Atmos journey requires meticulous
setup and configuration. But once done, the payoff is immense, providing a theater-like
experience within the comfort of your home.
Dolby Digital Plus in Action
Dolby Digital Plus, with its plug-and-play nature, offers a
hassle-free user experience. Users can enjoy enhanced audio without delving
into complex setup procedures, making it an attractive option for the casual
consumer.
Industry Perspectives
Cinematic Experiences
Dolby Atmos has revolutionized the cinematic landscape,
offering filmmakers new dimensions to explore and immerse audiences in.
Directors and sound engineers embrace the creative possibilities it brings to
storytelling.
Streaming Services and Dolby Integration
As streaming platforms continue to dominate the
entertainment scene, Dolby Digital Plus plays a pivotal role, ensuring users
receive high-quality audio even in bandwidth-challenged environments.
Future Trends
Advancements in Audio Technology
The audio technology landscape is ever-evolving, with
continuous advancements on the horizon. Both Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus
are likely to witness enhancements, catering to the evolving demands of
consumers.
Consumer Expectations and Demands
As consumers become more discerning in their audio
preferences, the industry will respond with innovations. The future holds
exciting possibilities for audio technologies, promising even more immersive
and personalized experiences.
Making the Decision
Personal Preferences
Choosing between Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus
ultimately comes down to personal preferences. If a cinematic, 3D audio
experience is your priority, Dolby Atmos might be the ideal choice. However,
for a more versatile and budget-friendly option, Dolby Digital Plus is a
reliable contender.
Matching with Entertainment Systems
Consider your existing entertainment setup. Dolby Atmos thrives in dedicated home theaters, while Dolby Digital Plus seamlessly integrates with a variety of devices, providing flexibility for different setups.
In short:
If you prioritize an immersive and cutting-edge home theater
experience, and are willing to invest in a compatible speaker setup, then Dolby
Atmos is the better choice.
If you want good surround sound quality and compatibility with a wider range of devices, Dolby Digital Plus is a solid option.
Here are some additional factors to consider:
Content availability:
Not all content is mastered in Dolby Atmos. Check the specifications of your
movies, shows, or streaming service to see if they support Dolby Atmos.
Speaker setup: Upgrading to a Dolby Atmos compatible speaker system can be expensive.
What did Emma Stone win an Oscar for 2024
Marking her second Oscar win in seven years, Emma Stone took home the best actress prize for Poor Things.
My dress is broken. I think it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken,” Stone said while accepting the award.
The other night, I was panicking, as you can kind of see, happens a lot — that maybe something like this could happen and Yorgos [Lanthimos] said to me, please take yourself out of it,” Stone added. “And he was right, because it’s not about me. It’s about a team that came together to make something greater than the sum of its parts.
After acknowledging all the “Poor Things” cast and crew
members, Stone singled out her director, Yorgos Lanthimos, saying, “Thank you
for the gift of a lifetime in Bella Baxter.”
Stone previously won the lead actress Oscar for “La La Land”
in 2017. She has also received Oscar nominations in the supporting actress
category for “Birdman” and “The Favourite,” her first collaboration with
Lanthimos. In total, Stone has received five Oscar nominations, four in acting
categories and one for best picture as a producer on “Poor Things.”
Stone leads “Poor Things” as Bella Baxter, a distressed
pregnant woman who commits suicide and is brought back to life with the brain
of her unborn fetus. As Bella, Stone mimics the phases of growing up — from her
most primitive stage to full adulthood. She also took home the best actress
prizes at this year’s Golden Globes in the musical or comedy category, BAFTAs
and Critics Choice Awards.
Stone spoke to Variety during a February cover story about
the significance of Bella as a character: “It’s the idea of not living with
that self-judgment or shame … or the social contracts that you make as a child
growing up. And part of the nature of anxiety is that you’re always watching
yourself. In some ways — this is horrible to say — it’s a very selfish
condition to have. Not to insult other people with anxiety — I still have it —
but it’s because you’re thinking about yourself a lot. You’re thinking about,
‘What’s going to happen to me? What have I said? What have I done?’ Whereas
Bella’s way of approaching the world, it’s just about experience. It’s just
about how she feels about things.”
She won the Oscar over Lily Gladstone for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Annette Bening for “Nyad,” Carey Mulligan for “Maestro” and Sandra Hüller for “Anatomy of a Fall.
The new Dolby Atmos AVRs should be the centerpiece of your home cinema system
If you're looking to upgrade your home cinema setup, Pioneer's two new AVRs should fit the bill nicely. Both the VSX-835 and VSX-535 support Dolby Atmos, HDMI 2.1, Bluetooth and 4K/120, making them a boon or gamers. They both play nice with 8K content too – not that useful now, admittedly, but it means they're future-proofed.
They both support Dolby Surround sound, and are compatible
with the HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision and BT.2020 formats of HDR.
The VSX-835 is the more premium of the two, supporting
either 7.2 or 5.2.2 arrangements (the VSX-535 supports 3.2 or 3.2.2 setups). It
has IMAX Enhanced Certification, and supports DTS Virtual:X and 4:4:4 colour
space as well as its previously mentioned skills.
Pioneer's IMAX Enhanced Mode is optimised to meet strict
performance standards concerning colour, brightness, contrast and audio
fidelity, and aims to deliver content exactly as the director intended.
With both Dolby Atmos and its DTS:X rival, the VSX-835 is
better equipped for immersive sound. DTS:X automatically adapts the audio to
the existing channels and speaker setups, so you don't need to follow a
specific layout. And if you don't have upwards-firing or rear speakers, DTS
Virtual:X will create the effect virtually (though it's never quite as good as
the real thing). Atmos does this too – with Dolby Atmos Height Virtualiser – so
you should get enveloping audio whatever your media formats or speaker
arrangement.
Both receivers use Pioneer's auto-tuning tech to calibrate
to your room. A custom microphone compensates for differences in speaker size,
level and distance, and equalises the response. They restore details lost from
compressed audio formats like MP3 and AAC, too, and both have 4x HDMI 2.1 in
and 1x HDMI eARC. All terminals are HDCP 2.2 compliant.
Both are available now – the VSX-835 for $499 (around £390 / AU$755) and the VSX-535 for $379 (around £300 / AU$574). UK and Australian pricing is still TBC.
